‘I started reading your collection and the Foreword. I love the way you have taken the history of the Jewish people and brought it as a background and life-giver to your poems. It gives structure and depth to your poems.’
Sujatha Mathai, well known author and poet, commenting on my chapbook ‘Light of The Sabbath.’

‘These poems take the reader into places that are as vulnerable as they are strong, as stoic as they are yearning, as descriptive as they are abstract, as particular as they are universal!
I enjoyed each poem but especially was drawn to Alibaug and Saffron. For the simple reason that the voice in those poems is so specifically Mendonca, the refrain so honest, the commitment so fierce. These are poems one would want to read again and again and listen to in Kavita’s own voice if possible.
The collection is special also because it is a subtle yet devoted tribute to the one and only Nissim Ezekiel – a daughter who is “blessed by the light” writing as both a continuation and a cohabitation of the poetic space alongside her father’s genius.
A very special collection!’
